In Mourning and Remembrance

of September 11

an original composition and song by  Julie Brown and R. Malcolm Brown, Jr.

The Story

By now, September 11 is firmly etched in the minds of every American and probably most of the world. That same week in 2001, I composed a soprano melody expressing my sadness of this tragic day for America. The accompaniment was then integrated by my dad on the Roland KR-1070 digital electronic grand piano and added to the melody line track using Cool Edit Pro software.

Three years later, we are now dedicating our joint work to the victims, their loved ones, and the survivors of September 11. This song  is haunting by its very nature and made even more so through the use of a low-vibrato mourning of the voice, with a very slightly off-tone wail that reflects the inner-most emotions of a human being drawn to the tragedy of that day. No words are spoken, and for this reason, the emotion in the voice is a universal emotion to reflect upon the immense sorrow that has befallen so many people from so many different walks of life.

The Story

Since the original recording of Coloratura Classics in 1997, there have been advances in digital recording technology. With the better  software and editing capabilities, it is now possible to greatly improve the recordings made nearly 7 years ago. My dad uses "Cool Edit Pro" and has been able to tone down the piano which was not recorded so well in the original. I hope that you will enjoy these remasterings.
